I am looking to go for a girls weekend n December or Jan.. does anyone know if there is anything to do, besides outlets?
December is much better than January. You'll find plenty of shops open on weekends and Thrasher's and Fisher's, bike rentals, bars, and lots of restaurants. Winterfest of Lights is going on, and there's something happening nearly every weekend up to Christmas. Check out www.ococean.com/events for a list. Seacrets is open, spas are open, indoor mini golf, shopping in OC, Berlin, and Bethany. Explore some really good restaurants that you normally wouldn't like Coins, Captain's Table, BJ's, Mio Fratellos, Shark on the Harbor and more. Indoor mini golf, laser tag, bowling, movies, karaoke. Lots of stuff. How about a horse drawn carriage ride? Of course, if the weather is really crappy, you won't find so much open for obvious reasons. But December would be my choice.
We go every year for NYE, lots of eating and drinking. We always catch Apple and Britt at Adolfo's.
Stop by the convention center for pamphlets and booklets for ideas. You could take a ride out to Assateague to see the ponies and their visitor center for a quick day trip. After that, hit Green Turtle or Harborside Bar and Grill for lunch. Stroll the boardwalk, then stop into the Cork bar for a drink.
momoo mentioned Berlin. It is a quaint town & i'm sure will be decorated beautifully for Christmas. There are several antique shops with lots to see within walking distance of each other. We had the best Maryland Crab soup I've ever had at (I believe) The Atlantic Hotel. Also, Winterfest of Lights is nice but get there early or you'll be sitting in line for quite awhile (at least when I've been there).
thanks everyone.. we are actually going Jan 6 weekend. We couldn't fit in a trip before the holidays. I am quite nervous that we will be bored!!! is there anything open in January??
Well, it will be quiet. Many places do close for a couple months the week after New Years. Best advice is to stop at the Convention Center's Visitor Center and pick up some free newspapers that list places that are open and entertainment in the area. Two other excellent sources for OC info are the Coconut Times www.coconuttimes.com/oc-md-whos-where-when and www.exploreoc.com . You'll still find the outlets open, there is indoor mini golf at 68th and 136th St, there are movies and bowling alleys open. Take the distillery tour at Seacrets. They tour about every half hour and costs about $10 a person. That's worth it, and they give you tastings. There may still be carriage rides around the inlet and boardwalk too. You could also arrange to have horses brought to the beach for a beach horseback ride. You would need to contact one of the local stables like Holly Ridge to have the horses brought down. https://www.hollyridgefarm.com/ And don't forget about the casino in Berlin . Ocean Downs is both a casino and a horse racing track. Very nice way to spend an afternoon or evening. http://www.oceandowns.com/
Bored? You'll have the beach and boardwalk practically all to yourself. Just hope for decent winter weather and you have a great time. If it's nice out nothing beats a walk on the boards.
Yes places will be open.
There will be places open, the locals pack up and leave. You will have the board walk (if it is not too cold), all to yourself. Then there is shopping in DE, eating and drinking.
If you take the advice here be prepared. Seacrets Distillery tour is usually by appointment in the dead of winter. For the last two years Seacrets was actually closed from Jan 1 until President's Day Weekend in February. Last time I was there they weren't sure about this year, however they have no entertainment or events listed on their website Calendar for January. And you won't exactly have the boardwalk to yourself.....you will be sharing it with vagrants and homeless people unfortunately. The emptier the boardwalk the more they stand out but only down on the south end.
Not trying to be a downer, I love OC all year....and if Seacrets IS closed you still have Fager's 'BJ's as well as others. Check out the two new bars across from Seacrets in the Gateway Grand building. Dry 85 and Red Red Wine. Excellent additions to OC and open year round!!!!
thanks everyone!!! does anyone know if any of the bars have entertainment in winter? i can look, but thought i would ask before looking at every bars calender.
