Boardwalk Location

Which end is better to stay? By the Hilton suites or at the other end by the Atlantic hotel and which area has the less crowded beach area? Have a 5 year old and want to go on rides and have good restaurants to walk too, 3 miles is a long boardwalk .

The boardwalk begins at the inlet, (most southern end) goes northward about 6 or 8 blocks of named streets like Caroline, Somerset, Division, etc, then starts numbered streets from 1 to 27th. ALL of the rides and games are located in the area of the named streets.

The Hilton is on 33rd St. so you would have to walk 6 blocks to 27th St. to the northern end of the boardwalk to get on the boardwalk tram and ride to the southern end where the rides are. Anywhere above 10th St. on the boardwalk will be less crowded and the further up you go, it will become even less crowded and quieter.

I would suggest you find a hotel that suits your needs anywhere in town and just drive to the boardwalk when you want to go. There is plenty of parking at the inlet lot, plus side streets and parking lots. No matter where you park (with a few exceptions) you're going to pay to park, but by the same token, you'll pay to ride the boardwalk tram as well. There is also a public bus that runs throughout the entire town, but I'm not a fan of riding it with little ones, especially at night. In a week, if you go to the boardwalk two or three times you'll be more than satisfied. And don't forget, there is also Jolly Roger Amusement Park and Water Park on 30th St. and they have a great kids area and rides.

Thanks, the amusement park at the inlet is much bigger than Jolly Roger? It sounds like I would rather be at the quiet side as I am looking for the best beach area that isn't so crowded.

There are two areas on the boardwalk...........one on the right side of the boardwalk, and the other on the left. There are rides and games on each side. Jolly Roger is spread out, but contained in one area. There are rides, zip lines, a water park, go carts, and mini golf all in one park. You can do both the boardwalk and jolly roger if you want. . The good thing is that Jolly Roger is not on the beach side of the street. If you stay anywhere between 16th and 40th St you'll still be close to everything, not necessarily in walking distance, but close yet quieter.

If you are looking for a quiet, less crowded beach it would depend on when you plan on visiting. Say, for instance, you are coming between mid-June and mid-August it will be very crowded, everywhere.

The beach, going north from 15th Street, sort of tapers down and isn't as wide as the beach going south (widest being 5th St going south).

The first 3 weeks of June we see the "June Bugs" (high school grads), in which case the word 'quiet' doesn't exist in their vocabulary. They usually tend to stay south of 15th St., especially on the southern end of the boards in the evening (days are spent on the beach recooperating from the night before).

We were planning the week of the June 15th-22nd, will definetely stay towards the northern end and visit the other end a few times. The Manor Hotel looks like it is in a good spot as the boardwalk almost begins there.

If you're planning on that week be prepared. The Dew Tour is scheduled to begin June 20 and all that week there will be construction on the beach by the inlet and the media trucks will be moving in, along with the athletes. I know it's not on any public listing yet, but trust me, that's when it is. They just haven't made the official announcement yet (just like last year). The event will be aired on NBC and other sports networks. This is a BIG deal.

As for your choice of hotels, it's a good one. The Dunes is quiet and nice. They serve free tea and crumpets and cookies each day around 1. And in the evenings they have sing a longs around the grand piano in the lobby. There are wonderful rockers on the porch off the restaurant that you can sit on and enjoy the early sunrise, or the evening. I've stayed there several times.

You say you have a 5 year old so Jolly Rodgers on 30th st and Trimpers Riders on the boardwalk by the inlet will suite your child's age the best. Jolly Rodgers Pier rides are geared towards teens.

For a place to stay it depends on what perks you wish for. If you wish to be able to walk out of your hotel and be close enough to the rides and the main part of the boardwalk then nothing past 5th st is best especially with a 5 yr old. Park Place, Tidelands, Hotel Monte Carlo and the Sleep Inn come to mind in that area.

Further north then the Dunes, Hilton or Holiday inn for more space might be a good choice as well. If your staying more than 4 days a condo might be a good choice too. Condos are slightly cheaper and give you more space to relax in.

More question please ask..
