We were there from Aug. 24-31st and stayed at a wonderful house in Chatham. A large 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath house with a den and no less than 6 tv's! Our weather was perfect - sunny and warm every day and many locals remarked it may have been the best week of the whole summer. We ate two lunches at the Squire - both good but the portions were small. We went to Provincetown one day and had lunch at Bayside Betsy's (on the water)..it was excellent - my husband had the Lobster Roll and it was better than the Squire's in his opinion. Most of the rest of us had fish and chips that were very good.
A dinner that we really enjoyed in Chatham was at the Roo-Bar. Don't let the outside fool you - it looks a little run down but the place was packed. We had the pizzas (you have to try the fig and proscuitto) which were fantastic but saw many of the patrons with great looking meals.
Took the fast boat to Nantucket - really enjoyed the town.
Got Marion's pies for dinner in one night - the turkey and sirloin ones were fantastic.
Had my birthday dinner at the Academy Ocean Grille in Orleans. It was fantastic. But wish we had known how huge the entrees were - we never would have ordered an appetizer! I had the monkfish and scallops; someone else had the codfish florentine - both excellent. Also various people in our group had the duck potstickers, arancini (risotto croquettes), crab cakes - all wonderful.
I think that Chatham was the best location we could have asked for. As well as the P-town and Nantucket day trips, we also did a fun day trip on Hwys 28A and 6A andtrips to Truro (for the Kobi pottery), Wellfleet and Orleans.
As well we took a Seal Watch cruise on the Rip Ryder around the Monomoy Islands - cruise left from Chatham. The trip was supposed to be 1 1/2 hrs. but since we couldn't find the darn seals, the captain kept going till we did. Unfortunately we only saw one grouping of about 12 seals on the trip but it was still a fun day and well worth the $25.
