Cape Cod without a car - please add to the list

I have seen many posts from potential visitors that would like to visit without a car and thought that I would make a sample itinerary of things that just popped into my mind. Ideas that someone could do without a car or maybe these days .........for families that might want to save on gas costs

Hopefully others will add to this list -

- Take the bus to Hyannis and take in the many things there ....like the JFK Museum or shopping along main street, relaxing lunch on the harbor or a refreshing harbor cruise

- Another day take the bus to Ptown stopping in the village of Wellfleet for breakfast and then hoping on the next bus out to Ptown

.......or stopping at the Eastham Salt Pond visitors center for short movies about the cape and a info about the area

....... After arriving in Ptown spend a portion of the day doing a whale watch, dune tour or just browsing the shops, and have early dinner maybe and head back home

- Then on another day..... they can take the bus Harwich (need to make arrangements for the detour) and take in the Seals of Monomoy Island Cruise or sail over to Nantucket the day or an overnight

- One or two days they will probably just kick back and relax at the beach, cottage or poolside at their hotel or enjoy some of the "touristy" things to do along Rt 28 like mini-golf for the kids or the obligatory stop in the Christmas Tree shop. etc

- Another day take the bus to Hyannis and onto woods hole for museum and stroll the lovely downtown Falmouth or a ride on the Shinig Sea bike trail

I am sure that you all can add lots of other things that one can do along Rt 28 and the bus route - please feel free to post so we can gather a reference tool for other. Granted there are lots of things that a visitor cant do when they arrive without transportation and they are restricted by the bus schedule but I don't think that people should be deterred from coming to the cape without a car as there are also some great things that they can do

Hi

Have just returned to the UK from our trip to Cape Cod which we thoroughly enjoyed even without a car. (2 dollars on the buses is very reasonable even 1 dollar when we realised over 60's get concessions) We stayed in Falmouth which is a very pretty little town and visited Sandwich and Chatham both lovely places to visit. We went to Sandwich travelling on the Scenic Railway the conductor of which we were told is in a recent film which has been made on the Cape. Of course we had to have a sandwich in Sandwich (a little place called the Brown Jug) Really tasty.

We went on a whale watch from Hyannis and were lucky enough to have a mother and calf swimming alongside the boat. Chatham also has its marine life with the seals coming into the jetty with the fishing boats, waiting for their titbits.

We were taken around the Falmouth and Woods Hole area by a lady from the hotel and went to Sphor gardens all very enjoyable. We took a trip from Falmouth out to Martha's Vinyard which we fell in love with. A day pass on the buses on Martha's Vinyard is to be highly recommended.

Thank you for your assistance in making our stay enjoyable

Thanks for following up with the wonderful report. Glad you had a good time! It would be great if more people could experience the Cape without a car, and cut down on the traffic.
