Kayak Rentals in/near Eastham

We are staying in Eastham on Great Pond. We would like to have kayaks dropped off at the house for the week. Any suggestions on where I should rent kayaks? Will be arriving August 21 - cant wait!

Contact Castaway Marine 508-255-7751, located on Rt 6 inNorth Eastahm across from Willy's Gym. They used to rent kayaks with delivery...not sure if they still do.

For all things watery on the Outer Cape call 'the goose'. If they can't accommodate you they will know who can. But take a look at this page. It seems that you will be able to rent from them and you can also check out the kayak tours that they run as well. Have fun.

The last time we inquired at the Goose they said that they did not deliver kayaks. If you rent one from them you either have to transport them yourselves or start your watery journey at the head of Town Cove. For a day rental starting at the Goose and paddling the length of Town Cove to enter Nauset Marsh works out OK if you are a strong kayaker but most folks want to get into Nauset Marsh right away. For that you need to put your kayak into Salt Pond or Hemenway Landing.

For the best tour, IMHO, contact Dick Hilmer...well worth the $. He provides the kayaks, knows the Marsh like the back of his hand and has great stories along the way. http://www.explorecapecod.com/

Yellowbird, we rented a canoe for a few hours from Goose Hummock a number of years ago and it took soooooo long to paddle out to Nauset Marsh, and then when we were finally so worn out after paddling in the areas near Hemenway Landing (we sort of got a little lost and almost stuck in the mud trying to paddle through one of those grassy mazes), we were fighting the tide going out for the long paddle back to Goose Hummock. We really earned our ice cream at the East Orleans Sundae School that day!

Like the original poster, we were also interested in possibly having kayaks delivered for just a day. I've checked out Dick Hilmer's site in the past and might consider a tour with them since we're both novice kayakers.

Smart move Lorna! The marsh is like a maze that continually changes with the tide and unless you know the general "road map" it is very easy to get lost. Dick has been getting a lot of good press lately....recently he was filmed recently by Good Morning America for a special web site featuring Cape Cod. More about this later. Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong taking the Nauset Marsh tour with Dick....he is a great guide!
