Hotel for overnight with good Cancel policy

We are booked on the MV Ferry for Friday AM (too early) on 6/15 but wait-listed for later in the day. We will hear by 6/13 if we get a better time. If not, we need to stay overnight in Falmouth in a hotel with a good cancellation policy so we can be there at 6.

The Holiday Inn offers free cancellation before 6/12 PM which puts us at some risk. Any thoughts? Some others seem to require 2 weeks advance, which knocks them off the list. Do we need to book in advance, or would we be able to get there and just find something not too expensive? (holiday inn at 159 plus tax is our limit).

Thanks for any advice, in a quandary.

Call and explain your situation to your potential motels. I'm sure they've heard this concern before and may be willing to change the policy as an exception. I've found staff to be vey helpful all over the Cape.

Thanks, I did something like that and they said they are not very booked and not to worry. Just call the day before or something like that. I will probably use the Green Harbor based on generally good reviews in TA...
