How many days will you have on the Cape Craftkook?
You can have a nice lunch at Baxter's on the marina, but it's not a true "beach" setting. It's a short walk from the Seacoast. Your only two options for beaches in Hyannis are Veteran's Memorial Park (small beach) and Kalmus beach, which is a much more traditional beach, but very popular with the windsurfers. Kalmus is right around 1 mile from the Seacoast and costs about $15 to park for the day. Plenty of better beaches a short drive from Hyannis and all cost around $20 to park for the day.
As far as having a nice lunch on the beach, why not pack a picnic basket and bring your own? Then you can go to any beach you want. I'm sure Al & Terri from the Seacoast will give you a wealth of info on where to go.
Hi Craftkook.... about 3-4 miles from the Cape Cod Melody Tent there is Craigville Beach. It is actually in Centerville. There are two take-out lunch places right across the street...everyone just walks over. Typical classic beach food.... burgers, dogs, clams, ice cream etc. etc. One of the places is called The Barnicle. It has been there since I was a little kid (35 years at least I would guess). The place next door is RIGHT next door, and is the same. Seating for both places is outside on benches....but most people just carry it back to their chairs and blankets on the beach. As far as the beach goes...it is really amongst the better beaches on the cape as far as water temperature... VERY swimmable....no rocks...just soft sand. It gets packed on the weekends...so get in the lot by 11:00... but there is PLENTY of parking across the street if the main lots are full. I hope that helps. Have fun. Oh yeah... as far as Veterans Beach in Hyannis...it is really geared to little kids. It is tiny...very "kid" friendly...lots of picnic tables and areas to eat. NEVER any waves at Veterans. EVER.
Thanks for all the info. We are going to be in the Cape for 3 nights so hopefully we'll get to squeeze alot in. We are hoping to do a Whale Watch as well.
Sea St (or Keyes) Beach in Hyannis also is a quiet family type bay shaped beach which has bbq and picnic areas and a snack bar that does nice burgers, ice creams etc. Or you could stop on the way at Sea St Deli and pick up a fabulous sandwich.
