Small Cape Cod towns

My husband & I usually spend the summers in Hyannis. We love the small downtown area but we are thinking of looking around the cape for other places to stay that has the same feel. Other than Falmouth and Hyannis, what other villages have a quaint, downtown area?

Thanks,

Mary

Chatham, Orleans, Provincetown, Wellfleet, Sandwich. If you spend the summers in Hyannis haven't you already seen these towns? We stay in Orleans but we have been all over the Cape many times.

I really don't think that any town on the Cape has the quite the same feel as Hyannis. Provincetown is certainly very different in its atmosphere. Wellfleet is more old-time Cape Cod to me. Orleans has a nice downtown area and is a bit more charming than Orleans.

I am confused by the premise.you think Hyannis is quaint? Only Falmouth and Provincetown are as "quaint". Probably followed by Chatham which on a nice summer weekend is becoming as quaint as Hyannis.

You're right, quaint isn't the right word for Hyannis! I guess I was remembering that we used to walk up to Main Street for coffee and the paper in the mornings and was looking for something similar. We've driven around the cape quite a bit, but we were not thinking about changing places to stay at the time, more sightseeing. We do love Chatham, and have considered staying there, but I was just looking for other places to compare.

I agree with others that there are no other places on the cape quite like Hyannis. I'd suggest Falmouth probably for lots of stores and whatnot around.

You might also consider Harwichport, where you can walk to shops, restaurants & the beach!

I always forget Harwich Port for some reason, although it's the first place that we stayed on the Cape so many years ago and we liked it very much.

Barnstable village on Rt 6A is very quaint, Barnstable harbor and Millway beach around the corner, a very nice area.
