Entertainment in Newburyport

Hi! I will be visiting Newburyport in February for a bachelorette party. Our plans are low key as the bride is a bit older - spa treatments, dinner, drinks. I am wondering if there are any comedy clubs, karaoke bars, etc. where we could go for some low key fun after dinner either in Newburyport or the immediate area (I cannot seem to find much online)? You can email me directly if you have any suggestions: bostonscubagirl@hotmail.com. Thank you!

There's the Grog located at 13 Middle St. in Newburyport that has music, no karaoke though.

Upstairs at Michael's Harborside they have a DJ usually:

In the nicer weather the Black Cow Tap & Grill restaurant has a great outdoor deck. It's usually packed on weekend nights, actually no matter what time of year it is, it's always got tons of people in it.

Close by is the town of Amesbury which has some funky places now more and more, it's always fun to walk through their downtown area, it's pretty neat. There's a Karaoke night on Wednesdays at the Mad River Tavern at 10PM and a Team Trivia on Tuesday nights 8 - 11. They're located at 37 Main St.

You could call the Powow River Grille located at 33 Main St to see if they have any music and the Barking Dog Bar & Grill in Amesbury has from Dublin Ireland, Tom Courtney on Wednesday nights from 8 - 11, who's extremely good.

If you drive a little further north in to southern NH you could go to Portsmouth may be? They have 3 good places for Karaoke that you could check out, here's the site on where & when they are:

It's always neat to walk through this downtown too, there's always a lot going on and you wouldn't have to just stay in one place. I know "The Gas Light" is always really hopping and they have a DJ & music usually on weekends, they're located at 64 Market St. The Dolphin Striker some times has entertainment too, they're located at 15 Bow St. You could go to the NH forum and ask there too if you end up wanting to drive up there, if you want more information on the town.

We've actually driven down to the Kowloon Restaurant in Saugus for comedy shows because we know one of the comics that's there a couple of times a year! Kowloon's is always a great place to go with a group of friends with reservations of course:

There's a Winter Wine Festival going on right now in to February & March at the Marriott Wentworth By The Sea Resort in New Castle, NH that you could go to may be? It's a good time to see this beautiful resort while you're at it. It's a short drive from Newburyport & Portsmouth. There's a calendar of events area on their website that you could check out to see if it interests you guys:

Hope you have a wonderful time! There's a lot of shops, bistros and restaurants right in Newburyport of course, but as far as Karaoke & Comedy? Forget it because they usually have bands, DJ's or one man solo acts. It's really a lot quieter than Boston's bar scene!

In Hampton Beach you could see if the La Bec Rouge's Last Call has any entertainment you might like? They're located at 73 Ocean Blvd. 603 926-5050 and are open year round, it's always crowded on weekends no matter what time of year it is.

Good luck!

no karaoke in nbpt. but if its the 15th, there is an excellent band at the grog that plays great music from 70's 80's along with recent stuff. "Don't call me Shirley" is band and here is a link to their site just in case. http://www.dontcallmeshirley.info/ (copy and paste).
