Does Plum Island have a public beach?
Plum Island basically is a public beach. There's more to it than that, but a practically endless beach (with accompanying dunes and scrub pine forest) is its primary feature. There's an access fee to use the road, but I'm pretty sure there are no parking fees or other charges. I think facilities are pretty limited.
yes it's all public. the northern part is used a lot by surf fishermen (whatever you call that) and is kind of a drag for sunbathers. the reserve is nice but is often off-limits for the sake the nesting plovers. when we go to the beach we usually pay for parking in a private driveway and sit in front of the Blue Resort. it's fun to hang out on the beach with people who are spending $500/night for the privilege.
parking was $20 today.
