oak bluffs: East Chop or by the lagoon?

Hi, i am planning a 1 week vacation to Marthas Vinyard and have narrowed the choice down to oak bluffs. we are a family with 2 children 2 and 5. we are unsure whether to choose a home close by the lagoon or one in east chop (highlands neighborhood).

Can anybody recommend one neighborhood better than the other? We are not bringing a car.

Where exactly might you be renting? East Chop is slightly closer, as far as a walk into town, but you are still looking at about a mile. Taxi cabs are flat rate, so don't base your decision on that. The Lagoon offers only a few spots where the public can gain access, so unless you're on the water, it may be somewhat of a letdown. East Chop sits up high, so walks along the outer road provide great views, however, there are no sidewalks there (nor the Lagoon area).

Any other questions, I'd be happy to assist.

Have you mapped the addresses out on google maps? Getting into town for an evening of riding the Flying Horses Carousel and dining out might be a welcome relief and East Chop will be closer, depending on the location of your rental.
