Parking in Plymouth

Wanted to find out what the parking is like in Plymouth. My family was planning on doing a day trip to Plymouth but if the parking situation is anything like looking for a parking space in Salem I may just skip this. Also is the rest of the town walkable from any parking lot?

Hi,

Parking in Plymouth is far easier than in Salem. It still depends on what time and day you go. Weekends have more available spots. There's 3 types of parking in Plymouth. There's 2 hr. unmetered, 4 hr. metered and a couple of pay and display lots for up to 10 hours where you pay at a kiosk and then stick the receipt inside your car's dashboard. Parking for the downtown/waterfront will allow you to see the Mayflower and Plymouth Rock. It's also the area where the good shops and restaurants are. Plymouth is a cute little town, but it's area is huge. It's one of the biggest towns area wise in Massachusetts. I'm sure you'll only be there for the downtown/waterfront though. Oh, there's Plimoth Plantation as well, but that you must drive to from the downtown to reach. It's about 5 miles from the downtown/waterfront.

I just wanted to add that there is also free parking available at the Jenney Grist Mill, a short walk away. There is a nice walking path from the Mill down to Brewster Park which is on the waterfront (across from the Rock). I live in Plymouth and that is what we do when we want to walk around the waterfront area with the kids.

Also, if you are planning on coming before May 31st, the Plymouth Rock Portico is under repair and there is no visitor access.

Pilgrim I am glad you suggested the parking near the mill. I think this is the best free parking available and a not a bad walk to the Plymouth harbor area. I've gotten parking there several times when the rest of the town was filled up. Of course now that we publicize this I hope it doesn't change! I also recommend stopping by the Jenney Grist mill for a tour or ice cream. The tour is espcially worth it if there is someone demonstrating the working mill.
