Planning August trip

We are planning a one or two day trip to Plymouth in later August and have a few questions:

1. Will the Mayflower II be back by August? I can't seem to find a date for when it will be back from repairs.

2. Is the Island Sands pleasant? We really want to be on the water and this looks like the best bet. (As a point of reference, we love staying at the Tides Motel in Falmouth)

3. Is it reasonable to plan on spending an hour to drive straight from Plymouth to Woods Hole early in the morning on a Saturday in late August, or should we expect traffic? We have car reservations on a ferry to MV and obviously don't want to miss it.

Thanks!

Another question:

4. Is it necessary to purchase tickets to plimoth plantation early or can we wait until we get there?

Whoops, meant "Pilgrim Sands" motel (not island).

1. Mayflower II won't be back until 2014, unfortunately.

2. It is fine. Some of the decor is a bit dated, but it has a great beachfront location and a nice pool.

3. That's the worse possible time to go. This past weekend it was over an hour from Plymouth center to the Sagamore bridge. Your weekend could be better, but it could be worse.

4. You can wait until you get there.

Thanks!

Pilgrim Sands sounds fine for us. Clean room with the sights and sounds of the ocean is what we care about.

I did read that the mayflower might be back during this summer. But that may be propaganda for tourists!

If you leave Plymouth around 7 A.M. it should take less than an hour to Woods hole. The traffic jam last week was due to torrential rain in the early A.M. that caused some flooding at the end of the Sagamore Bridge forcing a lane closure.
