Sandwich or Plymouth?

We are staying in Chatham for two nights and then moving towards Boston, and planning a stop overnight in either Sandwich or Plymouth? Is one stop better than the other? Which are has more to do? Thanks for any advice.

Since you are doing Chatham go off Cape to Plymouth. Great sites, dining, views..

Both are very nice, but I'd choose Plymouth. You can tour Plimoth Plantation, a "living history" museum with costumed guides and reproductions of both the original Pilgrim village and a Native American village -- well worth a visit. It will really give you a sense of what life was like in the early 17th century for that little group of pioneers, far from home. A short drive from the museum, you can board the replica of the Mayflower and climb Burial Hill to see the gravestones of the Pilgrims. Great views of the ocean!

If you choose Sandwich, be sure to visit the Sandwich Heritage Plantation museum, and tour the home of Thornton Burgess, who wrote wonderful children's stories about animals and nature. And be sure to have a meal at the Dan'l Webster Inn...

Have fun!

Sandwich. Select from the fun tourist attractions listed on their Chamber website and, if you like beautiful views, be sure to walk out over the marsh to the beach on their famous boardwalk. You can access it from the beach lot but I like to park on Factory (as in glass factory) Rd. and walk out all the way to the beach. Don't forget to bring your camera.

During the day I think it's fun to have lunch all the way up to 4PM in downtown Sandwich at Dunbar's Tea Room. Yes you can get a light lunch and wonderful, homemade desserts and, yes, tea but also you can order the hearty ploughman's lunch and micro brew beer.

Then there's lots of nice lodging and dining like the famous Danl Webster Inn or Belfry.

If you have time to drive into Sandwich (or off the Cape if you decide on Plymouth) on 6A instead of the highway (6) then you will be rewarded with lovely scenery dotted with galleries, unique boutiques and antique shops.

You'll enjoy whichever you choose. Have fun.
