Nantucket vs. Martha's Vineyard

We're going to be staying at the Bayside Resort in West Yarmouth. What's closer: Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard? What's the best location to depart? What's the nearest great beach to the Bayside Resort? First timers to the Cape -- we appreciate any insights!

Martha's Vineyard is closer to the mainland than Nantucket. You can get a high speed ferry out of Hyannis, just check to make sure when they are running. The Steamship Authority runs a ferry out of Falmouth, but it is a pain to get to. I do not know of a great beach near the Bayside but there are fantastic beaches in Dennis, Ma. which happens to be next to Yarmouth.
