Hotels by casinos and food

I will be going to Detroit for the Indians/Tigers game the weekend of June 7th. We are looking for a hotel to stay in by the casinos. We will be taking a client with us so we want something nice but not too expensive (trying to stay around $200 a night if possible). Any suggestions? Also, can you suggest a good place for dinner? Thanks :)

Greektown is your best bet. The Athenium is connected to the casino. Plenty of restaurants right there in walking distance. You are also walking distance to Comerica park. The Hilton Garden Inn is even closer to the stadium and a short walk from Greektown.

I would suggest the Marriot or Marriot Courtyard, they are both a short walk from Greektown. The previous poster mentioned the Hilton Garden Inn and that would be a good choice as well. The Holiday Day Inn Express may not be what you're looking for, but you can throw that in the mix as well.

Agree Marriott at the RenCen would be very good, close, GM head qtrs at the RenCen has displayes and shops. River walk. Just a couple block to Greek town and bricktown.

This morning I returned from the Marriott RenCenter and I have to agree that it's a great location. We didn't make it to any sporting events but it's only located two stops away from Greektown using the People Mover that's connected to the hotel. The RenCen is pretty impressive with it's size and waterfront views.

It's a full service Marriott but it's a category 3 hotel. Not sure why since it offers the many of the amenities as other Marriott's I've visited, but the furniture is a little dated (and there wasn't any bath gel or lotion in the restroom). However there's a flat screen TV in each room. You should be able to score a decent rate around $150 there (I wouldn't pay more).

Both the MGM Grand and Motor City casinos have their own hotels as well, but for the combination of casino and ballpark, I would say the Athenium is best for a business client. Right in the middle of Greektown next to the casino, a few blocks from the ballpark and a little more upscale than the hilton or holiday inn.

The Marriott Renaissance is good too as its close to Greektown and just a few extra blocks to the ballpark, but its right on the river which is the nicest location.
