Omni River Place

I got this hotel through hotwire. I was hoping for something walkable to the Fox, but am always open to trying new places. Does anyone have any comments on this place?

The biggest drawback of this hotel as you know, is that it's isolated from much of downtown, however it does provide shuttle service. Another big drawback is that the pool is in a separate building.

It's a newer hotel in an old building. The complex where it's located was originally home to a pharmaceutical manufacturer and this building was the research lab.

Based on the reviews here, they appear to be doing better than they were. If you're visiting in the warmer months, sitting on the lawn to watch the ships is a fantastic way to relax.

It definitely is isolated from everything. It is about 6 or 8 blocks east of the Renaissance Center and a couple of blocks south of East Jefferson, tucked away on the river. It also is a little hard to find if you aren't familiar with the city because the area doesn't seem at all to be where you would expect to find a hotel, particularly if you are arriving after dark. If you will have your car, however, it really will not be a problem to get anywhere you want to go.

If you have to rely upon the Omni's shuttle, you will want to check hours of operation, particularly if your plans will have you out late at night. You could take the shuttle to the Fox or, if for some reason they don't want to go that far, at least to the Renaissance Center People Mover station and then take the PM to Grand Circus Park station, which is a block or so from the Fox. Take a taxi back on the return trip.

I think if you intend to spend 3+ nights in Detroit you might want to consider a more central location. I think if it is a short stay the Omni will be fine. There are a few restaurants/pubs within a block or so and The Rattlesnake Club, one of Detroits finer dinig experiances, is in the hotel. Enjoy

Hate to disagree with a TA member, but the Rattlesnake Club is NOT inside the Omni Hotel. It is about one block away.

In addition to the Rattlesnake Club there are 4 bars/restuarants within about 3 blocks of the Omni. They are casual places.

CORRECTION. As I happened to be in the area earlier today, I clocked the distance on my odometer from Renaissance Center (GM HQS) to the Omni Hotel and it is 1.5 miles. I previously said it was about 6 to 8 blocks, but it is farther than that.

Tylerarb, Thanks for the correction, I thought that the Rattlesanke and the hotel were attached. Could have been the bottles of wine consumed with dinner...LOL Thanks for the help.

Just returned from the Omni River Place. It is definitely out of the way. It does have a shuttle to take you downtown, but a cab back cost us $17.00. Not much around there in terms of restaurants and stores, but the riverwalk is right in front of the hotel.

The staff there are super friendly - they certainly made us feel welcome and seemed very grateful for our business.
