Alternate to Slow's BBQ?

I've read about the 2 hour wait at Slow's. What is the 2nd best BBQ (non-chain) in the area? I'm driving from Cleveland to Ann Arbor the Saturday before Easter. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

I've never waited anywhere close to that long at Slow's (and wouldn't wait 2 hours at any restaurant), but I understand that it does get that jammed on week-end nights. In your case, I'd try it and if the wait is going to be very long, drive into downtown and try Sweet Water Tavern on Congress near Brush. It is a few blocks east of Woodward Avenue (main north-south street) and a few blocks north of E. Jefferson (the main-east west street along the river).

I agree, I have never waited that long at Slows. I have waited around 30 to 45 minutes, and I think its very much worth the wait. If you don't want to chance the wait, then I would suggest Smokehouse Bar & Grill in AA.

I like Slow's, great tap beer selections, acceptable 'Que.

I'll offer two more choices: Lazybones, in Roseville, about 14 miles from downtown--and a take out place

And, Bad Brad's BBQ, in New Baltimore, about 26 miles north of downtown Detroit.

Both of these places are on par with Slow's.

If you're going to head north of the city then I would head out to Union Woodshop in Clarkston. I thought it was just as good as Slows....if not better.
