Detroit Airport Marriott

We will be staying at this hotel without a car for one night before flight out. Any place we can walk to that's casual for a light dinner? Thanks.

The hotel is attached to the terminal, which is a mile or so of convoluted airport roads to get to. Walking off the airport property would not be safe or fun. You can get a pass to enter the airport terminal as a guest of the hotel if you don't mind submitting to TSA security. They also have their own restaurant outside of security.

Here is the airport website that will show you the restaurants in the terminal (McNamara). http://metroairport.com/

There is not much around the airport either, so hopping a parking lot or hotel shuttle would not give you any better options.

The Marriott is across I-94 from the airport. There are four hotels on Flynn Drive. In the middle is a Bob Evans restaurant. The Westin is attached to the McNamara Terminal.

Brain cramp! How did I confuse the Marriott and Westin?

The Wheat and Rye is a great restaurant about a mile north on Merriman at Van Born. Gigantic sandwiches really cheap. urbanspoon.com/r/…Airport-Wheat-Rye-Romulus

The Merriman Street Grill is a little closer, and it looks like they will deliver. http://www.merrimanstreetgrill.com/

You might want to ask at the front desk if they can shuttle you to a restaurant - not fun weather around here lately to be walking a mile down busy streets.

The Detroit Airport Marriott is an ok hotel, but don't expect it to be up to typcial Marriott standards. The nicest Marriott property near the airport is actually the Fairfield! The hotel and rooms are always very clean and we think this hotel is better sound proofed that the Marriott. There is also a small strip mall within a couple minutes walk the Fairfield which has a bar, a pizza place, and a Subway. There is also a McDonalds across the street from the Fairfield. In addition, the Fairfield puts out a small free breakfast in the morning (coffee, toast, muffins, poptarts, etc.). We stayed at the Marriott once before we wised up and switched over the the cheaper and nicer Fairfield. But, if you insist on staying at the Marriott, there is a Bob Evens restaurant within walking distance. And there is the restaurant/bar inside the Marriott. The Marriott restaurant isn't anything special - same menu that you'll see at any other low key Marriott. We had burgers and fries there once and they were good.

Actually, I stayed there on two separate occasions this past summer, and while an older Marriott, I find the rooms to be just fine and the rooms pleasant and comfortable enough. The club level has a pleasant lounge and food/snacks/wine/computer. The pool was pleasant and in a building in a nice courtyard area. I had occasion to eat breakfast (came with room) and before that got a sandwich. All were very acceptable and the Irish pub-style restaurant was also really pretty nice.
