Restaurant suggestions in Harbor Springs?

Four of us will be staying here for almost a week. Wonder if you can recommend a few restaurants - casual and up-scale both. What about grocery shopping? Thanks.

For groceries, use the IGA on State Street. For better, more upscale groceries including excellent meats and seafood and a full service liquor store, I like Toski-Sands.

Favorite spot for a casual lunch or olive burger supper is the Bar Harbor. Across the street on the water is the Pier, Chart Room and Dudley's Deck, also affiliated with Stafford's and the Perry Hotel in Petoskey.

The dining room at the Little Traverse golf club has been popular with locals for many years with a bonus of great views.

Take a ride up along the shore one day to Cross Village for a memorable lunch or dinner at the famous Legg's Inn. Also near there is the Crows Nest.

The city of Petoskey is loaded with delightful cafes and bistros. I'll let deadheadcouple or some of the other local experts tell you what's hot over there these days.

Here is a second vote for The Pier, Legg's Inn and the Crow's Nest.

I love Scalawags Whitefish & Chips and they have a location on the way toward Petoskey.

I forgot to mention Cornichon. Located downtown on State Street it's a great place for brunch or lunch. They feature fresh breads from Zingerman's deli in Ann Arbor.

Thanks for the suggestions. Do you know about "plank fish"...is it the name of the fish or the way they cook it?!! Anywhere that does this local dish really well??

Planked whitefish is a specialty of many restaurants in Northern Michigan. A filet of whitefish is cooked right on a plant, usually cedar, and served with mashed potatoes swirled just so on the plank. The fish usually has a light seasoning and butter and that's it. It is simple and delicious. I highly encourage you to try it!

A piece of local white fish served on a board instead of a plate. A local favorite and a must try.
