Here's a link to a discussion on this from last summer. In that thread there are links to other discussions and on and on...read these few threads and you'll get some very good suggestions. As for watering holes, here's my favorites.

Petoskey (in this order): Noggin Room Pub, City Park Grill, Side Door Saloon, Mitchell St. Pub.

Harbor (in this order): Bar Harbor, Wheelhouse at the Pier, Teddy Griffin's Roadhouse

There are some excellent dining options from casual to fine dining. If there's anything in particular you're looking for just mention it and we can likely point you in the right direction.

For pizza in Harbor Springs try Turkey's on Main St. They do good breakfasts too. Meet the locals for breakfast at Mary Ellen's.

The Bar Harbor is the top local watering hole and serves plenty of good food too, including their famous olive burgers.

Across the street is the Pier, with three restaurants and a popular bar.

The dining room at the Little Traverse Bay Golf Course is popular too and offers gorgeous views as a bonus.

And while you're in Harbor, you must drive up the shore to Cross Village for lunch or supper at Legg's Inn.

I definitely recommend The Pier in Harbor Springs for good food and a cozy bar. You can dress up a little and eat in The Pointer Room or dress down for The Chart Room (you can eat in the bar, too). Went to Bar Harbor once- nothing special on food & had to practically pay someone to wait on us.

In Petoskey we like The Noggin Room in The Perry Hotel on a weekend when they have some entertainment. Kind of cozy. Hope that helps a little. Have fun!!
