Where to stay for one night - Leland or Suttons Bay?

We have time for one night in this area. Trying to decide on a b and b in either Suttons Bay area or Leland area. Do one of these areas have a lot more places to eat or shop in, than the other? We plan to take the drive around the peninsula, hit a winery or 2, hit a couple of shops. Just trying to pick a town to stay overnight in. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

I like both communities and would go with the one with the B&B that looked the most attractive.

Thanks! I started to call for a room and am having a difficult time finding any rooms available in the inns that I chose. Busy time of year!! I waited too long!

I'd vote for Leland. Whaleback Inn is nice. Fishtown is just too cute!

We are staying in Leland at the Whaleback Inn. I was surprised they had multiple rooms available. Thanks for the suggestion, dre51.

Both have a different flavor. Suttons Bay is a bit more upscale I think. Leland has some little shops near the water mostly. I think if it were me, I'd choose Suttons Bay.

Thanks for your reply but we could not find anything available in Sutton's Bay. That was actually my first choice. I will do a review of the Whaleback Inn when we return.

Just replying to my post to say we enjoyed staying at the Whaleback Inn in Leland. It is a beautiful spot on the lake with wonderful views! The rooms are in single story motel style buildings next to the main house. Our room had a great view, was very clean, nice flatscreen tv, very comfy king bed, nice sheets and pillows, fridge, etc. Very comfortable and nice place to stay! Location is about 5 min. or less from center of Leland!
