I would look in Harbor Springs or Petoskey. Do Mackinac Island as a day trip. It's a magical place overnight (after that last ferry leaves), but with a crowd your size, I think you'll enjoy a base further down. You'll have more things to do locally as well as day trip options.

Thanks, that is where I will look. I did find a few houses that direction that would hold all of us comfortablely. What are the "must" sees in that area?

There are many options available to you on the island itself. You really can't beat staying on the island. Check out the following site with many options including homes and condos, both close into town and some quiet, secluded spots about 2 miles out of town. Certainly worth considering!

Must dos depend a lot on what you all want to do. Sounds like a diverse group. Do you all want to do everything together?

There's a nice little beach in HS and elsewhere. Boating options are always fun. Great golf courses. Sightseeing all the way from Mackinac to Charlevoix. BTW, mid July can be extremely crowded on the island around boat race events.

We are talking about renting a boat for an afternoon. We all used to ski when we were in college at the Lake of the Ozarks here in Missouri but it was way to crowded to let our kids do when we all went together a few years ago.

We will more than likely all do things together. That is what we havedone in the past. One night Grandma stays behind to be with al lthe grandkids and us adults go out for awhile, but other than that maybe the guys will go golfing or fishing, not sure.

We all like the beach and toursit attractions.

When are the boat races? Are they fun to watch? How much does it cost?

The Shores at Mackinaw have a maximum of 3 bedrooms, but you could rent two of them. That might be better anyway. http://www.northernresortmanagement.com/

I'm referring to the sailboat races that go from Chicago to Mackinac and from Port Huron to Mackinac. When the boats come in the harbor gets mobbed. Boats rafting out and it's a huge party. But very crowded as well. There's also a large gathering that occurs after the big races when the boats all head back down to Harbor Springs and then to Charlevoix.

No charge to watch. You don't really observe the race. But it's fun to see all the boats.

Go to www.mackinacisland.org to find accomodations, boat race info, and things to do on the Island.

Go to www.arnoldline.com to get a coupon for buy two adult tickets get a free childs ticket or $11.00 off third adult.(This ferry line is $1.00 less than the others.)

I would recommend staying on the Island. They have house for rent by the week all over the Island. They also have condos for rent. The Island is nice to walk around at dusk. You can see the Bridge lit up at night.

Doud's has good pizza starting at $10.99 for cheese.

We usually take our own groceries. You can pack them in a box or cooler. They don't charge extra on the ferries.

You might have enough people for a group rate for the carriage tour. Something to check out for other things too.

There are three playgrounds on the Island, two butterfly houses, and a putting range with real grass.

You might want to take your bikes to ride around the Island and have a picnic. It might also give grandma a day to do what she wants too.
