shepler ferry carriage package

has anyone purchased the shepler and carriage package around $43/person? How long is the carriage tour and is it worth it?

If you've never visited Mackinac Island, the carriage tour is a good way to see some of the most popular sites and learn a little island history at the same time.

There are two parts to the tour, the downtown portion where you pass many of the historic buildings of Market Street before heading up to the carriage museum where you can take a break, visit the Butterfly House (extra cost), get something to drink, etc., before boarding a 3-horse hitch for a ride through the State Park portion of the tour. You'll make a short stop at Arch Rock for photos before heading back toward town.

You will stop at the Avenue of Flags entrance to Fort Mackinac which I would suggest visiting. The advantage of visiting the fort this way is that you walk down the steep hill to town, rather than up it.

You can learn more about the tour at http://www.mict.com.

I'd also suggest visiting the Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau website at http://www.mackinacisland.org for other sites to visit, hotel listings, etc.

Mackinac State Historic Parks operates the fort and state park: http://www.mackinacparks.com.

Shepler's Ferry is conveniently located in Mackinaw City and drops you off toward the west end of downtown (which is only about 4 blocks long). I usually take Shepler's or Arnold Line. All three ferry operators are priced the same.

Have a great trip!

We recently purchased the carriage, ferry and fort ticket combo. You save a little money and waiting in line for tickets at each place and so if you know you are going to do them, buy them as a combo. Atlanta said all the right things, and so as a first time visitor, you should take the carriage ride. Have fun.

In 1872 Yellowstone was designated as the first national park. In 1875 Mackinac Island was designated the 2nd national park. In 1895 is became the first Michigan state park.

Just a little history for you.

In case someone reads this months from now: Early and late in the season, the entire carriage tour is done in the smaller wagon and the tour is a little shorter.

Hmmm, we were there the first week of June, Light. We did take the 2 wagons, but I still think they took the shorter route??
