parked cars

We will coming into Mackinaw City late one evening. We would like to stay that night, shop some before taking the ferry over. Where do you leave your car?

With this in mind, is the Baymont close to shopping and the ferry? This a planned mid July trip

I'd suggest looking at http://www.mackinawcity.com for good information and maps that include shopping and hotels. The Baymont is fairly close to the docks, especially Shepler's (http://www.sheplersferry.com). You also have Arnold Line and Star Line as options, but all charge the same price.

Overnight parking can range from free to $15 a night depending if you leave it in an open parking lot or inside a fenced building. A quick look at the ferry line websites will give you more than enough information on your options. We normally leave our car in the free area (and thus far haven't had any issues).

One of the other DE's grew up in Mackinaw City and I'm sure he will have even more information for you. Have a great trip!

Thanks, AtlantaPhotog.

The Baymont is about 3 blocks from Shepler's and closer to the downtown Mackinaw shopping.

When you research Mackinaw City hotels, stay on http://www.mackinawcity.com there are some other sites with similar URLs that look impartial but are owned by a corporation that controls many of the larger motels.

The free Mackinac Island parking is very safe, or you could walk from the motel.

We usually drive right on to the Shepler's dock (right off the main street downtown) to unload the car and then Shepler's will valet park your car for you. The cost is fairly minimal and it makes for easy unloading close to the ferries.

As you leave the island you hand your valet claim check to one of the employees on the ferry (sometimes they collect them when you are in line waiting for the ferry) and your car is waiting for you when you get back to Mackinac City.

I knew there was a charge for valet or indoor parking, but do they charge now for "normal" parking?
