Bugs, weather, dining in May around the Porcupine Mountains

We're thinking of visiting the "Porkies" the last week of May (ending with Memorial Weekend). Never been in that area. Have heard mosquitos and flies can be bad. We like nature hiking (trails, beaches, etc.) and don't mind a few bugs...but neither do we want to spend all our time swatting them off! Anyone visit there during that time of year? Also, we found a place called "The Beach Resort." Any reviews? And, finally, we like to eat fresh fish (walleye, perch, whitefish). Do restaurants in that area carry that fare?

Yes, they will carry that 'fare' at most restaurants in the area.

Bugs? Well, a lot of that depends on the weather. But, likely, yes. Went first week of June last year to various parts of the UP and bugs were out in full force-flies, mostquitos (had lots of rain in preceding days). Along the shore is not bad-the wind kept most away. But in the woods it was not good.

Sorry, about the weather, forgot to comment. Can be quite hit or miss. Could be sunny and fairly warm (60's) or cold, wet and downright cold (40's). Dress in layers, bring a good variety of clothing.

It is a beautiful area. Lake of the Clouds. Have a picnic along Lake Superior.

End of May most of the U.P. will be "buggy" to some extent.how bad will depedn on fthe weather...the warmer the "buggier." Bring a good insect repellent.

Nearly all the local restaurants will have some or all of the fish you listed.

Most the bugs come out at sunset. If there is a breeze and your not standing in the middle of a thick forest you will be alright.

Avon (ding, dong) makes a good bug repellent.
