saugatuck lodging help

Hello -- We are planning a family vacation to Saugatuck/Douglas/South Haven in July - haven't chosen a specific town yet or a specific date. We would like to find a place to stay that is on the water if at all possible. We are a small family, just three of us (daughter is 8), so we don't need anything huge.

Since we've never been there, we're not sure of the layout in terms of where the water is, public beach access, and walking distances, etc. We've looked at the rental options on the saugatuck.com website - and just can't seem to find anything that looks right. Some general advice about choosing a place to stay would be helpful. Should we stay in town where there seem to be many choices, or are there small condo type places on the water that we just aren't finding? Any advice will be most appreciated. Thanks!

Saugatuck sits on the Kalamazoo River...There should be rental options along the river but very few on Lake Michigan. Saugatuck is best when you can position yourself to walk to most things so I would suggest a spot downtown or close by. Did you check out the vacation rental listings for Lakeshore Lodging, Shoreline Realty, Millpond Realty?

Hi jordan1229 - We're visitng the Saugatuck area as a stayover as part of a Midwest friends and family tour, a local poster suggested this website;

There is a nice map of Saugatuck and Douglas in .pdf format which I printed out and found useful in booking lodging, in our case a B&B.
