Most Scenic Route from Cincy to Traverse City/Interlochen

Mapquest gives me 3 choices so I'm trying to find the most scenic route through MI from Cincinnati to Traverse City:

1: I-75 through Toledo, Ann Arbor, Flint, Saginaw, etc, then cutting across the state on US 10W to M-115 then M-37 to Interlochen.

2. I-69 N from IN into MI, 94W from Marshall to Kalamazoo; US 131N through Grand Rapids; M-115 to M-37 to Interlochen.

3. US 31 N from Indianapolis through South Bend to Benton Harbor; I-196 along Lake Michigan and though Grand Rapids; US 131N to Cadillac; M-115 to M-37 to Interlochen.

I'm thinking perhaps option 3. What do you think?

They all involve M-115 & M-37. Those should be the best parts of the trip, so I'd take the shortest/fastest. For the most scenic choices...You want to get up here asap.

Do the route on Mapquest again and drag the line near Holland to US-31 north.

Take this to Manistee, turn left onto M-22 at The Little River Casino passing through Sleeping Bear Dunes, then right onto M-72 to Traverse City.

There you have the most scenic route and just a tad bit longer. : )

Having driven the route for many years from Columbus, our normal trip was your first choice. Scenic it's not.

Then, after having moved up here, I had occasion to be in Indy on business. I really, really, really can't encourage you to do your third option. Why? At least from Indy to South Bend, you'll run into more stoplights than you could ever imagine.

You could also consider swinging west, on I-65, then cutting over to ride up the western side of the lower peninsula.

From Mapquest, you already know the trip is more than 8 hours. Any scenery will be at or near the end. If you want to make the trip even longer, that's your decision. If you don't, then I'd take one of the MQ suggested routes. Again, up here is where you probably want to be, not on the road. Once here, there are plenty of scenic drives you can do, and lots of driving and bicycling around Interlochen. And that is not to downplay the M-115 & 37 parts - You should enjoy those. But one suggestion I'd offer beforehand is to check the construction zones on those routes. Here's one site:

Of course there are others that can be googled. You can also check current traffic, any accidents, etc. Good luck.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply. Lots of good information here to consider. I especially appreciate the link for construction info.
