Sleeping Bear Dunes - How good it will be for a toddler?

We would like to take my 15 months old toddler to Sleeping Bear Dunes. But not sure will he be able to enjoy there?

Can we be able to walk on the sand dunes?

Are there any budget hotels to stay for 1 night there? or we need to come back Traverse City?

what else there to do for a family in Traverse City?

Please advise.

i am honestly wondering how a toddler would do at the dunes and area. we went as adults with no children and we loved it. but, these are some things i am remembering: it was really really hot and the dunes get hot and there is no shade and you can see the water but its too far to get to, there was alot of poison ivy to watch out for, there was alot of driving to do between points of interest, beautiful sightseeing but that wouldnt really be interesting for a toddler.

yes you see lots of dunes and can walk on them, there are a couple different ones.

traverse city has the park and easy accessible waterfront and beach, there are kites in the air that can be fun to watch. kids love great wolf lodge and the water park there, it is really geared to kids of all ages.
