Sunday evening restaurant

My daughter is graduating from the U of M on Sunday, 5/13 (woo hoo!!) -- would like to have a nice family dinner for about 7 or 8 people that evening? Any suggestions? Nice, but not real expensive. I've looked around, but it seems like some places are not open on Sunday.

Did you have a specific area or style of food in mind?

One place I would suggest is Ike's downtown Mpls.

I know it's open for Sunday dinner and it has a neat feel to it.

American-style food in the traditional steakhouse ambience. Burgers or steaks as well as other offerings.

I would choose it for the ambience. Seems to fit the classy yet not stuffy occasion, and then you're in an area with multiple places for good after-dinner drink. Ike's is good for that too.

But if you have other ideas, relay the info and I can recast some recomendations.

I'm a graduate student at the University of MN, and on campus, I highly recommend the Loring Pasta Bar. It's in Dinkytown, about a 4-minute walk from Northrup Auditorium (where Unirversity graduations are usually held).

It has a wonderful decor, and they open window panels to give it an open-air atmosphere when the weather is nice. The place is elegant, and they have a nice, varied menu. The prices are incredibly reasonable for the food quality and presentation.

I've been there on many occasions and have entertained out-of-town family guests there, as well as visiting business associates -- it's always been wonderful, and I'm pretty picky.

Check it out here to see if it fits the bill:

P.S. If you do go, I highly recommend reservations- it will get full with all of the graduations going on!

Thank you for suggesting the Loring Pasta Bar... It's actually one of our favorites. My daughter lives in Dinky Town, and whenever we're in town, we love to take her there for Sunday brunch. I hadn't even thought about going there for dinner.

I was looking on the net, and there were some rave reviews for Zelo -- any opinions on that spot?

The Nicollet Island Inn might be a fun place for you....though it may be a little more expensive than what you are looking for. Its' a great atmosphere with wonderful views of Minneapolis.

Thanks for your suggestions-- I'll pass them on to Kelli and let her pick -- we were in the Cities this weekend to spend the day with her -- we had a great time -- you have a great city and should be very proud.

A few more places to mull over:

Christo's: http://www.christos.com/christos.html Greek food; check the menu before you automatically say you wouldn't want to try it. The Saint Paul location in the Union Depot is especially fun: it's in the restored lobby.

Solera: http://www.solera-restaurant.com/ A fun place in the theater district of Minneapolis.

The Local: http://www.the-local.com/home.html Good food, great atmosphere on Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis.

Black Forest Inn: http://www.blackforestinnmpls.com/ Definitely one of a kind. Great German food, and, if it's nice out, you can sit outside.

Joe's Garage: joesgarage.users21.edigita.com/index.php Pasta and burger joint in Loring Park. Good food, and a rooftop patio.

I tried to think of a few out of the ordinary places that would offer something for everyone. Hope this helps.

Congratulations to your daughter!

Zelo would be a good spot for this type of occasion. It puts you down near a few after-dinner drink spots too.

Have you ever tried the other Loring Pasta Bar, in Loring Park?
