upcoming midwest trip including Minneapolis

We will be staying in downtown Minneapolis for a couple of nights. Want to know if it is a safe city for seniors as we arrive by bus and have to get to our hotel on 3rd. Hope it is a safe city. Thanks

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Just take the logical precautions that you would take anywhere to make sure you aren't making yourselves a target for anything unsavory and I think you'll be fine. It's a very safe city for a city its size. The only blips on the radar happen well away from downtown, generally. I think you're safe to walk and take the bus or train.

Downtown Minneapolis is a safe city and generally the people are very nice. The only word of caution is if you planning on stay out very late at night, just be street smart and don't venture too far north of downtown and you will be fine. The downtown area is pretty small, everything is within walking distance. Also, the downtown area is very flat so you don't have to worry about climbing steep hills. The skyway system is very convenient especially in bad weather. There is a free bus service up and down the Nicollet Mall; the bus will say "FREE RIDE." The light rail train runs along 5th St. and provides easy access to the Mall of America if you are interested. The ride is cheap ($1.75 non rush/$2.25 rush) and takes about 30 minutes.

If you arrive by Greyhound at that bus station, try walking east, past Hennepin, and head to Nicollet Mall. It's a heavily trafficked pedestrian street. From there head north. You're probably heading to the Depot Complex ?
