Girls Getaway

Three of us will be celebrating 60th birthdays in late June. Any suggestions for a 3-day getaway 1-2 hours from Minneapolis?

Lots of options, but I think it would be better if you told us what kind of things interest you. Nature, culture, museums, shopping, sightseeing, dining, fishing, etc

Overall, I would agree...depends a lot on what you're thinking you want to do. Let us know what kind of getaway you're thinking about. Is this a 60th birthday celebration on a nature agenda, historic attractions agenda, shopping, visit small towns, quilting retreat, other?

In the meantime, you may want to check out www.exploreminnesota.com. This is the state's official tourism board's website. Between suggestions to follow here and independent research, we should be able to find a great option.

Either she forgot how to post, or doesn't like the answers!

Here's some more input

1 to 2 hours with car:

1. Duluth........great old (really old) historical town. Canal Park area is neat. Has good accomodations, couple of antique stores.

Day trip from there to Two Harbors, then north on hwy 61 along Lake Superior for as far as you'd like to go.

2. Stillwater: again, great old historical city. Adequate lodging, lots of restaurants. (I've always had a soft spot for the Tara Club) Lots of antiques and upscale shopping.

3. Red Wing.......... a bit smaller.

St James Hotel a treasure. Good sights along the Mississippi........I think the hwy 61 (River Road) area has their own travel brochure with lots of info.

Check out Brainerd as well. There are some nice lodges up on the lakes in that area and some good restaurants as well.
