Mayo Hotels

Looking at hotels for a Mayo visit. Want this to be budget friendly, but also clean & comfortable. Any thoughts on the following properties:

Kahler has economy rooms for $79/nt but they look TINY & no brfst included.

BW Soldier Field has brfst included, shuttle, for $79, & website makes them sound VERY accommodating.

Comfort Suites looks to be on the outside of the city, but looks fairly new w/ shuttle, brfst buffet & managers reception for $84.

Ramada looks to run about $87 w/ brfst & shuttle.

Hampton Inn around $91 w/ brfst & shuttle.

Microtel Inn & Suites is $50/nt w/ shuttle.

OK, why the lower cost for the Microtel? Reviews sound like it is fine, as long as you don't get the 3rd floor (smoking floor). I'm very hesitant to stay at anything this "budget friendly"... Is it "too good to be true?"

Any thoughts?

I'd rank your choices as follows:

Microtel - No, not too good to be true, this place is fine. What a great price! Microtels are always lower priced. It is a basic hotel, not the amenities that you get at the other hotels. (Pool, breakfast, larger rooms ) If you don't care about these things, go for it. The location is fairly good, right on 52 and a quick shuttle away.

Soldier's Field - nice for the price; Twigs restaurant is fun.

Hampton - If it is the one on the NW side of town. This is new and very nice

Ramada - Didn't know they had breakfast. Nice pool open area.

Comfort Suites - Far from the Mayo. It is a few years old, not best location

Kahler - great location but fair hotel

The Kahler economy rooms are at the Kahler Executive Inn. It is OK and last time we stayed there the room looked to have been updated since the prior visit. Has advantage of being on the "subway" tunnel system.

Soldier's Field was OK when we used it once but several blocks from clinic. Like all the hotels there is free shuttle service to clinic and St. Mary's.

The place we use most often though is the Guesthouse Inn (former Travelodge).

Their rates have usually been as good as anywhere else and they have breakfast and large pool. Some units have mini-kitchen for extended stays. Attached to Famous Dave's BBQ place and there is a Perkins across the street. Rooms have mini-fridge and microwave.
