Snorkeling around Sayulita

We were interested in visiting Sayulita, but were wondering how the snorkeling is in the area. In particular, is there decent off-shore snorkeling in the area? If the only good snorkeling is off-shore, how complicated/expensive is it for a family of 4? Thanks for any input.

You can snorkel at Playa Los Muertos right in Sayulita but your best bet by far is off shore at Las Marietas. The least expensive way to snorkel at Las Marietas is to hire one of the many boat operators in Punta de Mita. For approx. $130 USD you will have a private boat rather than paying a per person charge with a group. The only problem is that then you will also have transportation costs to get to Punta de Mita unless you will have a rental car.

If transportation and/or expense are a problem for you then Capitan Pablos in Sayulita does put groups together and leaves from Sayulita.

We tried at Playa Los Muertos but water just too stirred up. On the plus side it was a beautiful short walk around the bay, thru a mystical cemetary and onto a great beach without anyone around. It is good either way.
