Day trip from Sayulita to Chacala

What's the best means of transportation to Chacala?

Will it be difficult to get back to Sayulita by day's end?

Of course you can taxi to Chacala but the trip is more economical by bus. You can catch a northbound bus to Las Varas at the highway junction across from the entrance to Sayulita. Chacala is at least 5 miles off of the highway and the buses do not enter Chacala so once you arrive in Las Varas you will have to taxi back the short distance to Chacala. As you suspected, the problem is getting from Chacala back out to the highway so that you can catch a return bus. Given this predicament that all Chacala residents and visitors find themselves in, it is very common to hitch a ride from/to the highway but waiting for a passing pickup is not a very reliable means of travel so it's a good idea to make arrangements with your taxi driver to return at a specific hour to get you back out to the highway. Be sure and get a phone number for his sitio as well so that you have a backup plan.
