ATV rentals

We are looking forward to our trip to Sayulita in April. Our 5 adult kids want to rent ATVs to explore the area. Any recommendations, prices to expect etc. Can you drive them on the beach or only in the jungle.

Thanks for any input

1. Re: ATV rentals

ATV's, and any kind of motorized vehicle for that matter, are strictly prohibited from being on the beach for the protection of many species including sea turtles who lay their eggs in shallow nests on the beaches. ATV's cannot be rented overnight either because they're too easily stolen and uninsurable for the same reason.

On the other hand, golf carts can be rented and serve as a convenient form of transportation within the immediate Sayulita area but they also have their drawbacks, they cannot be taken on the highways and at approx. $75/day they're almost twice as costly as renting a compact car.

With a car you would be able to travel the highways allowing you to explore neighboring villages/beaches and travel to Punta de Mita for a snorkel/whalewatching trip if you're so inclined.

ATVs wreck the jungle trails and the beach.

As a tourist, we should all be trying to make little environmental impact on the places we visit.

Thanks for the info on the rentals.

As tourists and stewards of our planet, we are very aware of the impact ATVs and dirt bikes and hikers can have on our ecosystems. Couldn't agree more. As is the case in many areas, there are designated locations that these vehicles can be ridden without damaging property or wildlife.

We are all for that

Yes. But sometimes the local businesses really want to have happy tourists and they will allow them their wishes - even when it's not allowed.
