Restaurant in downtown area for group

We will be in Kansas City and need a restaurant downtown for a large group of teens and families that will take reservations for a Friday night. Any suggestions?

From today's paper

Downtown’s AMC Mainstreet Theatre won’t open until May, but Kansas Citians can get a taste of what’s to come at The Marquee.

The theater’s bar and grill will open for dinner at 4 p.m. today at the southwest corner of 14th and Main streets in the Kansas City Power & Light District.

The 4,500-square-foot space features a lounge area with leather chairs, a communal table, a four-sided bar (one of the largest in the district and featuring several two-story towers of mirrors), an open dessert kitchen, and a dining area with 40-foot ceilings and custom chandelier sculptures. And it all fits in the lobby of the original 1920s-era theater.

The restaurant space heralds its historic past by showcasing the theater’s original support beams in wood moldings and original terrazzo tile floor. A mezzanine overlooking the restaurant will be available for private events, as will the “Director’s Room” below the entrance.

“Being able to restore a long-neglected, historic theater and then having a great, unique restaurant is yet another experience for Kansas City,” said Jon Stephens, president of the district.

Menu items include omelets, Reubens, hamburgers and hot dogs, open-face turkey sandwiches with mashed potatoes and gravy, spaghetti and meatballs, meat loaf, cornbread, crepes suzette, cookies, specialty cocktails and martinis. A late-night menu for 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. will offer such items as blueberry pancakes, crepes, biscuits and gravy, chicken tenders and quesadillas.

Prices will range from $7.75 for a Chicago hot dog to $14 for chicken fried steak and sides.

The Marquee will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 a.m. Friday and Saturday. It will be closed Sundays for now.

“It’s open to the public starting today and will be a chance for the public to get a sneak peek,” Stephens said.
