Westport has more of a local vibe with good restaurants and a good bars, there is a new bottle shop that just opened up that has over 600 bottles of beer. The Q Hotel is very close by as well as Embassy Suites and I believe both have a shuttle that will take you to other neighborhoods.

The power and light/downtown is your main Bachelor party HQ, there is a little courtyard area where all the bars kind of meet so you can drink outside. This area is more Bridge and Tunnel (Suburbanites from Kansas and Missouri) Jersey Shore/Ed Hardy type crowd if your into that kind of stuff. There are plenty of hotels in this area.

Martini Corner in Union Hill is another decent nightlife spot, there is a new whiskey bar that just opened in this area

thats some really good info...been trying to narrow it down to staying closer to Westport or closer to Power & Light. is there really much of a difference in terms of location? easy enough to get around? was looking at Crown Center hotels and Country Club plaza hotels. both fairly convenient?

Both are convient, Crown Center is more for families with a legoland, aquarium, restaurants, hallmark and the hotels. Crown Center is closer to Power and Light and not too far from Westport. Plaza is like an upscale outdoor mall with many restaurants and shops, its closer to Westport. The Hotel Sorrella is a very nice hotel, they have a great rooftop bar.

If you haven't already purchased tickets to the ballgame, check out the options since they have a patio area now like other stadiums and all you can eat/drink packages. Hope you have a great time!

For God's sake, don't get the "all you can eat" package at the Royals game! :-)

The three areas you mentioned:

1- Country Club Plaza -- for fancy rich and older people, and nice to visit, but not Bachelor Party territory. If you go here, try the Hampton or Courtyard, or maybe the Embassy Suites on 43rd (lots of room, free breakfast).

2- Power & Light -- mainstream, chain-type restaurants and bars, like you would find in any done-over City in America. If you are frat party types, this is your place. Even if you're not frat boys, it can still be fun if you catch it on the right night with live music and a variety of pretty solid bars. If you go here, try the Hilton President for "crawling distance" or Comfort Inn & Suites on Admiral for an affordable choice that will take a brief cab ride home.

3- Westport -- This is the "indy" party zone of KC, with a lot of locally-owned restaurants, bars and clubs, and is the hands-down choice for a non-frat-boy Bachelor party. Great live-music spots here, but no boy bands. For hotels, the Q is good and close, as is the HI Express, the Embassy Suites is just to the South, in walking distance and is a bargain for lots of people in one suite.

Insider drunken-late-night-outing tip: When you are done partying and ready to go back to whatever place will let you stay there, BEFORE you leave put in an order to Santora's Pizza, which delivers primo pizza until 4 AM, and get a great-big Italian Sausage and mushroom pizza headed to your place of lodging ... this is absolutely the best decision I have consistently made when behaving badly in KC ... they ain't quick at all and they ain't too cheap, but did I mention that they deliver until 4AM, and it is real solid New York style pizza, and is the perfect snack before passing out at your hotel, not to mention the perfect breakfast/lunch for those who cannot manage to make it downstairs for omelets or whatever.

Final tip: don't wear your "good" shoes. :-)
