Travel suggestions in Western Montana

We will be traveling for a few days from Choteau to Kalispell to Missoula to Bozeman. Our travel plans are not firm. I would appreciate any suggestions on restuarants, things to do/see, or where to stay. We have been to Glacier several times already so we are not going to Glacier. Thanks.

Choteau is a very small town with limited lodging and restaurants. We had some good food at the Elk Country Grill and Log Cabin Cafe.

The area around there is miles and miles and miles of beautiful ranch land and not many places to stop for gas, restrooms, etc.

In Kalispell/Whitefish area you will find lots of choices for lodging and restaurants. We actually enjoyed the town of Whitefish more than Kalispell. We stayed in Kalispell at the Hampton Inn because we made reservations too late to get in park lodging for Glacier NP.

Bozeman is a college town and has the normal chain fast food and chain restaurants plus several local restaurants in the downtown area. We stayed at the Homewood suites near the airport.

Hope this info helps. If doing scenic drives might enjoy taking MT 1- Pintler Scenic Hwy- up thru Phillipsburg. Some of the locals on the Bozeman forum might be able to help you more with the area or if you post in the general Montana forum. Not many people post and answer questions on the Big Sky forum.

If anyone has an interest in mining or geology, you might stop in Butte and see the old head frames dotted around town from the Copper mining of the past. There is a small but interesting downtown area. There is also the mineral museum on the Montana Tech campus and just to the west end of campus past the stadium is the Mining Museum.

Bozeman has the Museum of the Rockies which is good especially if there is a dinosaur interest.

Lewis and Clark Caverns are just off I90 at the Cardwell exit.

Not too far east from there are the Missouri Headwaters State Park and the Madison Buffalo Jump State Park.

Here is a link to the Montana State Parks website.
