I would get it in Jackson. If you are flying in to a bigger town such as Salt Lake, get it there.
Or most ,if not all, of the trading posts(gift shops) inside the park
We're flying into JAC. A few years ago when we were there around Labor Day the stores at Canyon were out of it (probably because they were ready to close down for the year). We got the last can they had at Lake. Figure it will probably be the same this year inside the park since there has been so much attention to needing it. We don't plan on doing any hiking until after we reach Gardiner. Just wondered if there was usually plenty available in Gardiner. West Yellowstone seemed to have it everywhere but we won't be going over that way.
IIRC, the little store in the headquarters building of the Yellowstone Association sells bear spray, and the profits go to a good cause. Anyway, bear spray is available at a number of Gardiner locations.
Bill, I e-mailed the Yellowstone Assn recently to ask this question for someone else. They do sell bear spray at their locations in Gardiner and in the park.
Does anyone have any idea of what to do with spray if you have to fly home? We gave ours over at the airport and it seemed such an expensive waste... ideas? What have you all done?
Many will give it to the Rangers at the last Visitor Center they pass or at the Entrance gate.
We've given it to the rangers and also to people we have met on our last day in the park who are staying longer.
