Yellowstone in December

My daughter and I are doing a road trip from Vegas up to West Yellowstone, Bozeman around and south to Denver in early December. Should we just have one day at West Yellowstone then take some time in the northern area for a snow mobile tour of Yellowstone?

Is it too early to do then?

Where should we stay?

What other things are worth seeing?

Early December is too early for West Yellowstone entrance.

The road between Gardner (North entrance) and Cooke City is open year round. The other roads open to guided snowmobile and snow coach travel starting December 15 depending on conditions.

Instead you could stay in Gardner and visit the northern part of the park. Prime area to view Wolves (Lamar Valley).

Tours into Yellowstone from West YS won't start until Dec 15 when the park reopens for winter snow activities. If earlier than that, you won't be able to go in via West YS. Mammoth and the North Entrance is open year round, that will be your only option.

December is winter in the northern Rockies and might not be the best time to visit Yellowstone, Bozeman and drive to Denver. Blizzards can close down the entire state of Wyoming.
