Transportation to Glacier National Park

Hi, my wife and I are going to be in Whitefish for a couple of days at the end of the month for a friend's wedding. We would like to spend one of our free days hiking around Glacier National Park, but neither of us drive. Is there any way to get there without renting a car, perhaps even some sort of tour that originates in Whitefish?

Renting a car is cheaper than taking a taxi, which is the only other way to get to the park. There are no trips originating outside the park. It is a bit shameful.

Tip: you should reserve the car as soon as possible. The agencies run out of cars sometimes, especially if there happen to be a lot of weddings, etc.

OP does not drive. Some of the hotels have concierge services that will take you into the park for a hefty fee. try Grouse Mountain or the Lodge on Whitefish Lake. Also try Glacier Guides. They might pick you up at the hotel for a guided trip. How about hitching a ride with other wedding guests?

Yeah, it sounds like our best bet is finding someone at the wedding to tag along with. Thanks.

Once you get to the park there is a shuttle system. If you aren't up to driving the Going to the Sun Road this may be an option. Check the website for the park for more information.

The following is too late for the OP but should be helpful to others--

There is a new bus service that begins July1 2015 and ends September 7, 2015 linking stops in Whitefish to the Apgar Visitors center of Glacier National Park. Service is limited. Adults $10 round trip,

From Apgar one can catch the park's free shuttle.
