Tahoe newbie...need advice

I'm looking to plan a trip to Lake Tahoe next summer. Is the lake warm enough for swimming? Perhaps rent a kayak/hang out at the beach. I'm not a skier and casinos aren't my thing, either. Basically just want to relax/visit a nice spa/take in all the scenic beauty that is Tahoe. I enjoy shopping. Should I look at North or South Tahoe? What is the difference between the Nevada/California sides? Thanks for any help you can provide.

For Lake Tahoe, the entire lake is scenic and nice.

South Lake Tahoe is more built up than other parts of the lake. There are places to rent boats, go kayaking, nice parks with frisbee disc play, Rabe Meadows, gondola ride, and more.

North Lake Tahoe has some ancient casinos not worth visiting.

Nevada side has Incline Village which is pleasant to stat at with nice views.

Camp Richardson on the west side of the lake in California is close to a very awesome scenic beach area - which is nice for swimming and kayaking

I would look for a place that you would enjoy staying at within your price range. Hiking is good all around the lake.

If you want to do day road trips away from Lake Tahoe, South Lake is easier to get to Virginia City (touristy old silver mining town, Carson Valley, etc.

North Lake Tahoe is easier to drive to Reno, Truckee, and Donner Lake as well as Boca Reservoir
