crowds in Lake Tahoe July 4th week for honeymoon

Hi

My Fiance and I are thinking of planning our July 2013 honeywmoon to include 5-6 days over July 4th in Lake Tahoe at the Marriott Grande Residence. We would love to do some short hikes, bike, take the ski lift/tram to he top of the mountain, maybe a river raft, and probably a cruise on the lake. - and of course enjoy the fireworks on the 4h. It looks like there are festivities all week long the week of the 4th.. Just wondering if it will be so crowded it will be not so pleasant to drive around and tour the area. (we have never been there) Or is the celebration/fireworks of the 4th worth putting up with the crowds. We could delay to the week of July 13th, but of course, we would miss the fireworks display.

One thing we thought of was staying farther north for the , maybe closer to the Redwoods Park area... Then come down to Tahoe AFTER the July 4th weekend. ANy suggestion for a nice place to stay closer to the Redwoods?? Thanks for any input.

You don't want to miss the Fireworks around the lake on the Fourth. They are held in several locations. We are at the Hyatt in Incline Village every year, and as guests, get wristbands to go on their beach, which is lake front, to watch them. It's nice because there is no parking problems, and we have lounges and chairs to sit on and enjoy the live entertainment.

The 4th is on a Wednesday this year, so that's about the only time it will be crowded around the lake and you should stay put after about noon that day. People who live in the local areas drive up for the day and tend to return home, and the other days will not have the crowds.

Since you are going a year from now, the 4th will be on a Thursday, so the week leading up to the holiday will be fine. We do all the normal horseback riding, kayaking, rafting, bike riding and hiking during the week.

The Marriott Grand Residence will be a nice place to stay, close to the casinos and restauants.

My wife and I spend 4 days of our honeymoon at (south) Lake Tahoe in 2008. We actually left on the 4th of July that year. It was not that crowded.

We stayed in a nice cabin at Zephyr Cove resort. Even if you chose to stay elsewhere, I recommend you visit there. There are plenty of activities and over a mile of beautiful beach.

We also took some nick hikes while there. Our favorite was a shorter one - the Eagle Lake trail.

I would do as much touring in the days preceding the 4th and then plan to stick aroudn the area doing the least amount of driving on the 4th.

The fireworks at the south shore are great. The fire them off from some barges on the lake just off shore from Edgewood. They are synchronized with music and the show is top notch. You can see them from many places at the south shore.

I go quite often for the 4th of July and it is very busy, but I don't think it is that bad. I try to limit my driving, and for sure try not to be on the roads in late afternoon till after the show is over on July 4th. There is a lot to see and do during this time period at the lake.

Congratulations on the upcoming wedding.

CaSwede,

Nice Artist point photo of the lower falls.

FYI, the photo to the left was taken at sunset over Lake Tahoe.

My picture actually is of Nevada Falls as shot from Glacier Point. I think this was about 3-4 years ago. I thought your picture was shot somewhere in the desert. LOL I was way off, but all the avatar pictures are just too darn small to figure out details.
