Lake Tahoe vs Reno

We are visiting this area for the first time in October 2012. We are retired, enjoy nature and casinos. We are wondering whether we should book our resort in Lake Tahoe or Reno. Which offers the best location for access to restaurants and casinos?

Lake Tahoe is more high end, and Reno has more casinos to visit.

Lake Tahoe is just beautiful...... Reno is a city. There are five casinos at the south shore located at Stateline. You will find plenty of restaurants in this area.

For someone from upstate NY, you will love Lake Tahoe. This should be your first destination. Harveys and Harrahs are right on the state line. They are the biggest/best casinos. Fine dining on both sides of the state line. Great attractions, things to do, between the mountains and the lake.

Reno is a high desert city with things to do, a lot more casinos, etc. I'd suggest a day trip from your Tahoe base camp for a first visit. Pick an attraction or two ( auto museum, art museum) and one big casino (ElDorado, Silver Legacy, Peppermill, Atlantis). 90 minute drive.

Lake Tahoe is awesome. There are enough casinos to keep it interesting, and plenty of great restaurants. In fact, all around the lake you can find fine dining or just good food with a view.
