Just got back from Vegas and thought I would post a trip report since we had so much fun.
It didn't start out that way since our 8:45pm flight out of Chicago got cancelled due to 8 inches of snow. Frantically called United to get rescheduled and they supposedly put us on a non-direct flight to Denver then on to Vegas- 4:45pm flight time. No time to spare - -We were nervous wrecks once we arrived at the airport with 30 minutes before flight time. Nasty unhelpful United employee directed us to get in line and wait (altho our flight was due to leave in 30 minutes) Got to self check in where the computer cheerfully announced us ready to go to LA then on to Vegas the next day. UGH..I refused to give up one day of my vacation. Hubby waited for an agent in a line that wrapped around the building twice while I went back to self check to try again. Found a "see other options" button. Turns out the original flight was not cancelled as the United website had told us...just delayed. We grabbed 2 of the last 4 seats and headed to the gate. Delayed, delayed, delayed but we didn't care- just glad to be getting out. We waited at the airport bar and finally boarded at 8pm- waited another 1/2 hour for the de-icing machine (very important we thought) and ended up flying out at our original time- 8:45pm. We just knew we had the luck going on for this trip.
Got in to Vegas at 11pm ready to go. Checked in to the Aladdin and per the posts on this website, decided to try and ask for an upgrade. No twenty dollars needed. Our reservationist found a room after a few hmm's and haws and upgraded us from a regular deluxe room to a strip view room on the 8th floor. Got to the room and the view actually wasn't that great since the 8th floor is still pretty low (tip: ask for a room that is on a higher floor- the view is better) but we weren't complaining because the room was large and quite lovely. We were happy to be there. Hit our casino and checked it out just playing some slots before we hit the hay.
Next morning, we indulged as we usually do on our first day in Vegas...Room service for Breakfast...Eggs Benny/ bloody mary's and we're ready to roll. We had to use the Desert Passage exit to leave the Aladdin since they were doing contruction on the front of the hotel (didn't hear a thing all week) - we strolled the strip and hit a few faves, Barbary Coast, O'Sheas (photo with the leprechaun) and landed at Casino Royale- our personal favorite casino for cheap gambling. I got on the craps table while hubby played Carribean Stud Poker. After a while I joined him since I had never played the game and hit a full house with dealer qualfying and won a few hundred right away. YES! We stayed at CR most of the day and then headed back to the hotel-. Had resos at Hugo's Cellar for Valentines day dinner. Cabbed to Hugo's and splurged on Lobster and Steak and chocolate dipped strawberries (free with dinner)- We love this place and come here every time we are in Vegas. We decided to stay at the Four Queens and gamble - hubby played craps while I hit the Haywire multi denominational machines and they were HOT- After a good day and night of gambling, we headed back to the Aladdin.
Next day, we decided to try the Orlenas which we heard had cheap gambling. It was a nice casino but we got whacked. Lost at slots and then sat down at a Pai Gow Poker game (me and hubby)- slow death but the dealers were so nice teaching us the game that it didn't hurt as much. Even the Pit boss came over and gave us a free buffet altho we didn't even have a players card- Teriffic people at the Orleans..very friendly . We hit the Flamingo on the way back to the hotel for some slot action and that brought us back a bit. We had tix to Second City that evening (free thanks to friends back in Chicgo) so we decided to go to Toby Keiths bar and grillf or dinner. LOVE this place..amazing cheeseburgers and yes, had to run next door to Toby's store to buy a t-shirt. Headed to Second City - very funny show and then we hit more strip casinos- Harrah's for some slots and blackjack..not much luck there. Stopped by Carnival Court for music and drinks...GREAT and headed home.
Next day Friday, our last day, decided to just walk the strip and pop in anywhere..found ourselves back in Casino Royale- played more Craps and slots. Decided to head over to Venetian to check out the Wax Musuem (Madame Tussad's) Didn't think hubby would like it but it was pretty fun. tip: take your camera and take pictures in a medium shot..close ups don't look real with the wax dummmies. Goofy fun but nice to take a break from the gambling. Afterwards we decided to hit Frontier hoping for cheap gambling- Again hit the craps table and did pretty well- hubby settled for Elvis slot machines. We broke even and headed out to hit Imperial Palace for Karoake. Sat upstairs and had cocktails and met another couple- guys did Karaoke and we had a great time. Back down to the Imperial for late night gambling- oops 3am and we have to be at the airport at 9am. Time to head back to the hotel.
Sat- Got to the airport and US airways (second leg of trip) offered us an upgrade to first class for $100 each. We decided to go for it but the self check in wouldn't work so we found ourselves at the counter. America West (same airline) employees very nice trying to put our upgrade thru and charge the card- couldn't get it done. Finally after 30 minutes, head dog says- I'm going to give you the boarding passes for first class but you need to go to Passenger Assist after checking thru security and they will process the upgrade. We were fine with it and got thru security and over to the assist desk. The gal looked at the first class boarding passes and said' You're good to go"- I mentioned to hubby that I believed we just hit a jackpot"- great way to end the trip- First Class home -free of charge.
Can't wait to go back, already! sorry this was so long...
