Who will be in town March 21 to 27?

The Mailman and I will be in Las Vegas March 21 to 27 for our annual dive trip. We staying at the historic El Cortez on Fremont, he in the vintage rooms and me in the tower. Who will be in town then? I am planning an informal Meet and Greet at the Atomic around 3:00 pm on Thursday the 22nd.

That's a shame, we are going to spend some "quality time" on Fremont Street this trip, not just a quick walk through.

V-D – I thought you were just in Vegas, too bad we will miss you.

As much as I enjoy talking to my friends Joe and Stella and the bartenders, I won’t be spending all my time at the Atomic, we will mix it up throughout Downtown, class joints like the El Cortez, Western, Gold Spike, and the Bunkhouse, of course, the casinos under and adjoining the FSE. Various places on the Strip including some nice clubs over the weekend, we clean up pretty good. Not to mention the Aztec and Dino’s as well as a foray to the Golden Palm and Wild, Wild West. Also, my local friends give me leads on other “interesting” places to visit. If they are fit to report about, I will certainly do so. It will be a fun trip.

I am going to miss you. I'll be there April 15-20. Maybe if you and Mailman do another trip next year I won't already have a trip planed and will be able to join you. Then we will create a real Fremont Street Experience. I don't know if you've hit any of the side streets off Fremont but there are some realy seedy looking places between FSE and the Cortez. How far down Fremont beyond the Atomic have you ventured? I'm real tempted to go further. Don't forget Chicago Joe's on 4th if you need a good meal. I 'm looking forward to your trip report.

After a while headed east then south east on Fremont, it turns into pretty much a regular lower working class neighborhood, there is a park and softball field to the north and the usual small shops, store front churches etc. Locals in the Atomic have told me that there is a small convenience store on Fremont and 11th that has become a hangout of gay male soiled doves, but that’s the limit to how much research I am willing to do along those lines.

Maybe 3 years ago I walked south on Main to the first big street, maybe Bonneville, then east to the Blvd and back to Fremont. Main is a lot like the Blvd. Adult business inter spaced with car repair shops and discount furniture outlets etc. A local at the bar in the now closed Nevada hotel told me about a “tap room” near the detention center but I never found it. Back in the day that area was pretty rough and I got the feeling that I was being sized up for trouble, or maybe just as a potential customer, but nothing ever happened. Maybe this time we will run a proper search pattern and see what there is to see south of Downtown. From recent cab rides a lot of the small cement block homes are being torn down for new development, probably more luxury condos.

West of Downtown is the railroad and the highway. I never ventured north of Downtown under the highway.

I hope that helps.

LT - The Lady and I are planning a trip in high summer late July or early august when the rates are down and we can get extra points at the Golden Nugget, but that will be a different trip all together, mainly focused on the pool at the Nugget. The dates will be centered around the best deals on air fare and hotel rates and the most Private Arrangement points we can get.
