i'm definitely going to try it, but a couple questions first. they can't possibly be good shrimp, can they? lastly, where do you go in the golden gate - can you get it on the run or do you have to sit down in a restaurant?

Here's an piece taken from there website:

"The Golden Gate introduced shrimp cocktail to the Las Vegas casino scene in 1959, and we've served over 25 million since! This Las Vegas tradition features lots of ocean shrimp in an old-fashioned "tulip" sundae glass, served with our own secret cocktail sauce and a wedge of lemon for only 99. If you like large, succulent shrimp, then try our new "Big Shrimp" cocktail for only $2.99. Locals vote our shrimp cocktail "Best of Las Vegas" year after year."

It's served in the deli. It's all the way in the back if you walk in through the front. It's excellent! Go for the 2.99 serving...still a bargain. The cocktail sauce is really good. You can asked them not put to the sauce in glass if you don't like it. You won't be disappointed.

Yes, you have to eat it there. They even have a sign in the deli asking patrons not to keep the glass as a souvenier. Ask, maybe they have a take out container?

Yes, you can get it to go. They will however charge you extra to do so, I believe 50 cents. When I was there a couple weeks ago they had a sign saying that take out orders are available for an extra charge.

The 99 cent shrimp cocktail is fantastic!

But, in saying that, know that the shrimp are not the big juicy ones found at any other Vegas buffet or restaurant. They are like the itty bitty ones found in a frozen dinner or as part of a shrimp salad found in your local deli. But they are fresh and tasty and you easily get a cup and a half worth!

thanks for the posts. i didn't mean get it to-go, just meant not having to sit down in a restaurant. i'm staying at the nugget in may so i'll definitely head over there. sounds like one of those quirky vegas traditions.

When I got that .99 shrimp cocktail, it was nothing like I expected...it was basically salad shrimp! I mean, for .99, it's fine, but not exactly what I had in mind.
