We recently moved from Texas to southern California

and wanted to visit Vegas. So I booked March 4-6 (Sunday-Tues.)

at TI. The drive from Orange County was not bad. It took just under 4 hours. Cool sight as you come out

of the mountains and see the strip. Arrived

officially in Vegas at 2:00pm. I appreciate the advice given here as I had gone between Harrah's and TI and will jump ahead and say our stay at TI was excellent.

We had reserved a strip view room at TI as part of a winter package. There was no line. I

kindly informed the clerk that it was our 20th

anniversary. She said yes that was in the notes. She

said room service will provide a complimentary bottle

of champagne. I asked if it was also possible for a

room upgrade. She clicked a bit and said she could

give us an upgrade to a panoramic room (which is a

corner room). She said these rooms usually are $40

more a night. She went off to get our package

discounts (some restaurant coupons, $10 of a show, and casino money when we sign up for the players club card). There is $200 hold on the credit card for incidentals. I thanked her for her help and we moved on to the 25th floor.

Our room was overlooking

Siren's cove with a great view of the Wynn and the

north strip. The side window had a view down the south

strip. It was a great room.

Had a couple cool brews before we headed down to the

casino. Some of you know I was worried about the

smoke in the casinos (having asthma) but it wasn't too noticeable at

this time. We signed up for the player’s card and got

$30 free play included in the room package. My wife

and I are inexperienced gamblers. I had $80 bucks in

my pocket and the wife had $60 for gambling. I will jump to the

end and say after buying food, some drinks, and some

minor souvenirs, and only 2 meals on a credit card at

the end I had $130 in pocket and my wife had about

$30. So we must have gotten ahead in the casino :).

We headed to the players club desk. We signed up

walked away and both looked at each other "what now?". A

friendly elderly attendant was standing there so we

asked him to explain again how to make us of the

freeplay on our cards. He suggested we try "these"

slots with a smile and we punched in. Hits went up

and down. I moved on to video poker at the bar. The

tender said he could comp me drinks if I played with

at least 20 in and hit max credits. Ordered my first

of many vodka tonics and actually won about 60 in an

hour.

We decided to use our $15 meal discount at

Kahuanaville. We split the chicken stir fry and had

some awesome cocktails. Feeling pretty good it was

time to head to Gordie Browne at the Venetian. We had

bought half-price tickets at travelzoo. Picked up the

tickets at will call and then walked the Venetian for

1/2 hour until showtime. The show was good. His

singing impersonations were ok. His comedy shtick was

funny. He broke into a Robin Leach impersonation and

then asked Robin to stand up. Then also had Smokin

Joe Frazer stand up. How cool. After the show I got

a cool picture of my wife and Robin Leach, "life

styles of the rich and famous."

Next we headed down the strip. Stopped in at Casino

Royale for a look and cheap beer. The timeshare folks are right at the entrance.

Then saw the fleeces at the store next door. On to Harrah's for some slots

and the awesome dueling pianos. The bar was packed

and rockin. Watched this for about 1/2 hour then made

our way to the carnival court for some drinks. This

place was going strong to.

We headed back to TI. Wife hit the slots and I played

some more video poker at the bar. Kept winning again,

and had 1 too many cocktails :) . We had to call it

a night as we were ready to turn into pumkins as it

was past midnight. First night in Vegas and I was up at least $60 but would pay..

More to come about day two 
