I don't know if there are buses out there, we drove and if I remember right, it took about 1/2 hour without traffic. It was a very nice side trip to take. We spent several hours out there, walking around, taking photos and doing the loop drive. If you can go, and enjoy that kind of desert scenary, I recommend it.

It takes about half an hour to get there. I have always gone by car. It is worth the trip - you can just drive the loop, getting out of your car at various points but to really enjoy it you should hike on some of the trails.

I would go to Valley of Fire instead of RRC. It is much more spectacular with scenery that will take your breath away. The sandstone formations are absolutely stunnning. It is much bigger and better than RRC.

VOF is a longer drive than Red Rock (about 60 miles from center Strip) but it's more than worth it.

VofF is about an hour from the strip. RR is about a half hour. We loved RR and VF both.

We would like are going to Vegas for 5 nights and are thinking of a night at the Red Rock Casino so we can spend a day riding/hiking. Would that be a worthwhile contrast?

I don't want to hire a car though. Does anyone know if there's any public transportation to get there and back?

Red Rocks is just a half-hour or so out of town. I was a nice few hours away. Be careful what trails you hike though - a few are pretty long and tough.

Thanks for the quick reply! We want to stay here to get some outdoor pursuits. Is everything right outside or do you have to travel to the start of the hikes?
